Third Sunday of Advent – December 12
The Holy Season of Advent and we are at the midpoint of this penitential time in the liturgical year. The third Sunday of Advent or Gaudette Sunday we are reminded by lighting the rose candle that God sent angels to proclaim His arrival through common people and He needs ordinary people today to spread the good news of Christ. The rose candle and option to wear different colored vestments is to lighten the mood a little and refocus and rejoice in the Lord.
The rose candle represents God’s love and faithfulness and is a reminder to us that we are to be symbols of this love for the broken and marginalized in society. We are preparing for Jesus’ birthday so we must do what He likes. Remember Jesus is the reason for the season. Let our Advent truly be Christ centered as we prepare our hearts and homes for Christmas. Let us this week joyfully and concretely anticipate the imminent rebirth of Jesus.
May the glow of the rose candle remind us to have patience and joyful perseverance as we celebrate the birth of Jesus. Rejoice always in the good news that a saviour has been born and may this guide our lives and actions all through the year. The lights of the candles remind us that Jesus is the light of the world. Happy Birthday Jesus.
