Reflection - First Sunday of Lent 2011
"A clean heart create in me, O God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me”. Ps. 51:12
On this first Sunday of the Lenten Season, I am aware of my many efforts to remain
faithful to God’s love. I am equally aware of the many times I do not live fully the
empowerment of this love in my life.
Today’s Psalm is for me a reminder that a faithful and steadfast spirit is the result of an
ongoing response to the daily circumstances of my life – those every day little and not so little things that can distract me and take me off-course, or can lead more fully to all that I am gifted to be.
Empowered by such love, I hold fast to the truth that it is not perfection that God seeks
from me, but rather faithfulness in the little things, and the effort to begin each day
humbled and grateful for yet one more opportunity to deepen in my heart my
plea: “a clean heart create in me , o God, and a steadfast spirit renew within me”.
During these Lenten days of renewal, what do I need to change that will allow my heart
to be renewed, my spirit steadfast?
