REFLECTION – FIRST WEEK OF LENT
Listen - Go Deep Within
“Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, was led by the Spirit into the wilderness…”
Luke 4: 1-2
Jesus, in this Bible passage, knew when He had to go into the wilderness - He was present and He trusted in the deep voice within ... the voice of God. Is that not what we are called to do? Be still, listen and trust. It is in being present and embracing the sacredness of our humanness that we will encounter God. The wilderness is a place God calls us to relax and listen attentively with an open heart and new eyes. It’s easy being busy. How can we hear the cry of Mother Earth, and those made poor if we can’t hear our own cry and embrace our own vulnerability? It takes courage and trust to be still and listen - listen to the beating of our own heart that beats with the heart of Mother Earth. To be still and attentive to our breath, one with the breath of the Universe.
So with a new burst of energy, from our own wilderness experience, we can individually and collectively go forth into our world and see with new eyes and hear with open hearts the cry of the Earth, the cry of the poor.
Let us reflect:
- How can a wilderness experience strengthen us to hear anew the cry of the Earth and those made poor?
- How have we individually seen hope been born in the darkest of times, the wilderness, of our lives?
